Cruises and Tours Worldwide

Enjoying cruises while managing gluten free diets and food allergies is very doable and rewarding. Discover new places and experience safe gluten and allergen-friendly journeys!

The majority of cruise lines worldwide now address some level of accessibility requirements from food allergies and special dietary concerns to mobility and sensory needs. However, the focus on accessibility for guests still varies significantly in the travel industry.

As international travel consultants, Kim Koeller and our team can curate your personalized trip for fun stress-free experiences. Our team also helps navigate your special dietary requirements and other accessibility needs to ensure safe meals throughout the duration of your cruise.

If you prefer to handle your own travel plans and communicate your special dietary needs, please refer to the following recommended guidelines for safe dining.

Cruise Checklist for Safe Gluten and Allergy Free Meals

To ensure eating safe meals at sea during your cruise experience, it is recommended that you:

  • Research cruise lines to confirm the best fit for your dietary needs and desired travel plans.

  • Review emergency medical facilities, medicines on board and procedures for life threatening reactions in the case of anaphylaxis.

  • Contact customer service department of your preferred cruise line to address any unanswered questions prior to booking your reservation.

  • Inform cruise line at the time of your reservation of your gluten and /or allergen food concerns.

  • Order your gluten and /or allergen-free meals in advance, if appropriate.

  • Ideally, obtain in writing mutually agreed upon meal plan for cruise.

  • Determine if designated wait staff / team serve each meal during cruise.

  • Determine what snacks are needed for excursions away from the ship. Research bakeries, restaurants and local cuisine, if desired.

  • Obtain foreign language travel cards as needed based on port cities.

  • Confirm special meals with the cruise line 3-5 days prior to departure.

  • Meet with Hotel Director (yes–on a cruise ship!), manager of the dining room, staff and/or chef upon boarding the ship to reiterate your needs.

  • Communicate your gluten and allergy food concerns to your designated wait staff and cabin crew, as required
